Postgraduate studies with DTMD

DTMD, as “Institut supérieur de formation continue,” offers international courses for professional promotion at an academic level.

In cooperation with accredited full partner universities, DTMD offers postgraduate master’s degree programs, too.  We attach great importance to internationally accredited study programs. The programs are aligned with the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) at levels 7 (Master’s) and 8 (Doctorate). According to the current Luxembourgian legislation for higher education, all these programs are certified by our foreign partner universities.

Admission requirements

A successfully completed undergraduate degree is generally required for postgraduate courses. Specifically, this means that at least a Bachelor’s degree (level 6 according to the Bologna or Bruges-Copenhagen criteria) is required.

The application-oriented continuing education Diploma and Master’s degree programs are open to applicants with completed apprenticeships and several years of professional experience. However, the prerequisite is that the training and professional experience are directly related to the desired course of study. It will be checked individually whether the requirements for admission to the Master’s program have been met. These admission requirements are checked as part of the accreditation process.

In special cases, for example, if a previous degree is missing, DTMD and the university partners reserve the right to make admission to the Master’s program dependent on additional conditions. In such cases, admission can be granted, for example, through an aptitude assessment procedure.

Consecutive Master’s degree program

The Master’s degree program is consecutive. This means that it builds on a previous degree program in terms of time and content. This is particularly relevant if the desired career goal can only be achieved through further education.

It should be noted that a consecutive Master’s degree course is not a second degree course if it is taken up for the first time as a postgraduate course. For the students, however, it is a postgraduate course, as they have already completed university training in medicine, dentistry, or medical technology due to their professional activities.

The Master’s program qualifies students for scientific work and methodology. The program teaches theoretical and analytical skills. In addition, the ability is taught to deal flexibly and creatively with new professional requirements.

Your degree

The Master of Science (M.Sc.) from the university partners is a professionally qualifying degree. This degree documents a special professional competence in the qualification shown in the Master’s title. In addition, the Master’s degree provides access to further doctoral programs at numerous Colleges and universities worldwide.

Credit Points

According to the legal requirements, students must provide evidence of a total of 300 credits from their Bachelor’s and Master’s degree courses in order to obtain a Master’s degree. In some cases, this can lead to a so-called CP gap. In this case,

Students are offered the opportunity to apply for additional credit points through practical work until they submit their Master’s thesis.

Duration of the Master’s degree

The Master’s program usually comprises two to four semesters, including creditable prior learning, as suggested by the German Rectors’ Conference. It serves to deepen the academic knowledge of previous studies, to open up new areas of knowledge and to confirm and validate practical skills and experience. In addition to the successful completion of the degree program, which includes active participation in lectures and exercises as well as passing the final module examinations, the completion of a Master’s thesis is required.

The topic of the Master’s thesis

The Master’s thesis enables the author to independently work on and solve a problem from the respective subject area using scientific methods within a specified period of time.

Upon application, it can also be recognized that degree programs are consecutive and are not in the same subject area as the completed Bachelor’s degree program.

In this case, the applicant must provide evidence of a suitable connection in terms of content and subject matter.
