Postgraduate studies at DTMD

DTMD as “Institut supérieur de formation continue” offers in Luxembourg courses for professional promotion at academic level.

In cooperation with accredited full partner universities DTMD offers postgraduate master’s degree programs, too. The internationally oriented DTMD under Luxembourg law is based in Luxembourg. We attach great importance to internationally accredited study programs. Our programs are aligned with the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) at levels 7 (Master) and 8 (Doctorate). According to the current Luxemburgian legislation for higher education, all these programs are certified by our foreign partner universities.

Admission requirements

A successfully completed undergraduate degree is generally required for postgraduate courses. Specifically, this means that at least a Bachelor’s degree (level 6 according to the Bologna or Bruges-Copenhagen criteria) is required.

DTMD also opens its application-oriented continuing education Master’s degree programs to applicants with completed apprenticeships and several years of professional experience. However, the prerequisite is that the training and professional experience are directly related to the desired course of study. It will be checked individually whether the requirements for admission to the Master’s program have been met. These admission requirements are checked as part of the accreditation process.

In special cases, for example if a previous degree is missing, DTMD and the universitarian partners reserve the right to make admission to the Master’s program dependent on additional conditions. In such cases, admission can be granted, for example, through an aptitude assessment procedure.

Consecutive Master’s degree program

The Master’s degree program is consecutive. This means that it builds on a previous degree program in terms of time and content. This is particularly relevant if the desired career goal can only be achieved through further education.

It should be noted that a consecutive Master’s degree course is not a second degree course if it is taken up for the first time as a postgraduate course. For DTMD students, however, it is a postgraduate course, as they have already completed university training in medicine, dentistry, or medical technology due to their professional activities.

The Master’s program qualifies students for scientific work and methodology. The program teaches theoretical and analytical skills. In addition, DTMD teaches the ability to deal flexibly and creatively with new professional requirements.

Your degree

The Master of Science (M. Sc.) from the universitarian partner is a professionally qualifying degree. This degree documents a special professional competence in the qualification shown in the Master’s title. In addition, the Master’s degree provides access to further doctoral programs at numerous Colleges and universities worldwide.

Credit Points

According to the legal requirements, students must provide evidence of a total of 300 credits from their Bachelor’s and Master’s degree courses in order to obtain a Master’s degree. In some cases, this can lead to a so-called CP gap. In this case,

DTMD offers students the opportunity to apply for additional credit points through practical work until the Master’s thesis is submitted.

Duration of the Master’s degree

The Master’s program usually comprises two to four semesters, including creditable prior learning, as suggested by the German Rectors’ Conference. It serves to deepen the academic knowledge of previous studies, to open up new areas of knowledge and to confirm and validate practical skills and experience. In addition to the successful completion of the degree program, which includes active participation in lectures and exercises as well as passing the final module examinations, the completion of a Master’s thesis is required.

The topic of the Master’s thesis

The Master’s thesis enables the author to independently work on and solve a problem from the respective subject area using scientific methods within a specified period of time.

Upon application, DTMD can also recognize degree programs as consecutive that are not in the same subject area as the completed Bachelor’s degree program.

In this case, the applicant must provide evidence of a suitable connection in terms of content and subject matter.
